The latest addition to the English cricketing calendar in 2021, the Hundred was seen as a franchise competition that could go up against the biggest in the world, but its position in the game remains uncertain at best.

There have been arguments from different quarters about the Hundred effectively cannibalising county cricket, with the August primacy it now enjoys. By the same token, the recent sale of the franchises to foreign investors is a step apparently taken with the welfare of the counties in mind, who will now enjoy more funds.

The Hundred has brought with it new rules such as five-ball overs, the potential of one bowler bowling two 'sets' from the same end back-to-back (although the USA did have a previous iteration of this concept), and of course, the 100-ball format, as opposed to the 120 balls of T20 cricket.
