In this quiz, you have to name the batters with the most runs in a men’s bilateral Test series.

Overall, there have been 83 instances of a player scoring at least 600 runs in a bilateral Test series. The list shrinks to 36 when the cutoff is raised to 700 runs, and further reduces to just nine when the threshold hits 800 runs.

The record for the most runs in a Test series belongs to an Australian batting legend, renowned for his career Test average of 99.94. He amassed 974 runs at 139.14 during the 1930 Ashes, a feat that remains unmatched. The only other batter to surpass 900 runs in a Test series is an England great – the great rival of the previous person – who scored 905 runs at 113.12 in the 1928/29 Ashes.

Only one active player currently features in the top 20 – an Australian batter. Remarkably, he appears twice on the list, at 12th position for his 774 runs at 110.57 during the 2019 Ashes, and at 14th for scoring 769 runs at 128.16 in the 2014/15 Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

An Indian captain, who just scored his fourth century (joint-second-most in a Test series) during the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, is rapidly climbing the ranks. Currently on 722 runs, he has a real chance to break the Indian record of 774 runs, set during the 1970/71 series against West Indies.
