In this quiz, you have to name every cricketer who has won either the Orange Cap or the Purple Cap in every edition of the IPL.
Not too long after the inaugural edition went underway, in 2008, the IPL committee announced a reward for the leading run-scorer of every ongoing edition. The batter was awarded an Orange cap – mid-match or even mid-innings – when he secured the lead. Soon afterwards, they named a Purple Cap for the wickets chart leader.
Quiz! How well do you know the IPL’s hat-tricks?
The colours were chosen for a reason: they did not appear on the shirts of the eight teams. However, the purpose was lost soon. In 2010, the Kolkata Knight Riders changed the black on their shirt to purple. And in 2013, a new team – Sunrisers Hyderabad – donned orange from the onset. The team and fans still call themselves the Orange Army. The colours might have lost their significance of neutrality, but they remain coveted awards.
An Australian has won the Orange Cap thrice (that too over a five-year span), while a West Indian and an Indian have won it twice each. On the other hand, a West Indian and two Indians have won the Purple Cap twice each. One of the Indians has even won the Purple Cap while playing for two different franchises.
There have been 36 winners across the 18 editions until 2025. Can you name these 36 winners in seven minutes?
