In this quiz, you need to name the playing XIs in each side’s first men’s Test in the 1990s.

As of July 2025, 12 teams have men’s Test status, but things were slightly different at the start of 1990, when only eight teams had Test status. Zimbabwe became the ninth team to join the Test fold when they were awarded Test status in July 1992.

South Africa, meanwhile, had been excluded from international cricket from 1970 to 1991 due to the apartheid regime, and played their first in over 30 years in 1992.

The most recent Test entrants before Zimbabwe were Sri Lanka, who played their inaugural Test in 1982 against England.
