The 1999 World Cup began on May 14, 2025. Played across England, Scotland, Ireland, Wales, and the Netherlands, the seventh edition of the men's ODI World Cup was won by Australia, beating Pakistan in the final.

Unsurprisingly, an Australian player led the batting rankings before the tournament began, followed by an Indian, a West Indian, and a South African. The highest a Pakistan player was ranked in the batting rankings ahead of the World Cup was ninth. No England btters featured in the top ten.

The batter who ended up as the highest scorer in the tournament with 461 runs from eight games, was ranked outside the top 30 before the World Cup. On the other hand, none of the top-three ranked batters featured in the top 10 of the run-scorers list at the World Cup.
