Chasing 408, India were six down in the Old Trafford Test match of 1990. A win was unlikely, and perhaps even a draw, when Manoj Prabhakar joined a teenager with more than two hours to go. But the youngster, Sachin Tendulkar, batted through to make a maiden Test hundred, and the Test was saved. Unfortunately, since he was not of legal drinking age, he had to wait before he could open the magnum of champagne he got as the Player of the Match. He had to wait for that.

Tendulkar was neither the first nor the last to leave a mark in cricket in the teens. Some of them faded out after causing a stir, being unable to live up to the immense promise. Others made their early starts count.
