The Test and ODI series in Afghanistan’s tour of Bangladesh have gone in different directions. While Bangladesh won the one-off Test by a record margin of 546 runs, Afghanistan came back to inflict a historic 1-2 ODI series defeat on the hosts. The series was Afghanistan’s first in ODIs over Bangladesh, and Bangladesh’s first at home since 2015 against a team other than England.

The action now moves on to the two-match T20I series that will be played in Sylhet. The first T20I will be played on July 14, while the second will be played on July 16.

Bangladesh vs Afghanistan T20Is: Team news

Bangladesh were rocked by the retirement-unretirement saga of Tamim Iqbal in the middle of the ODI series. Tamim first announced his immediate retirement from international cricket in an emotional press conference, but then took it back after intervention from the Bangladesh Prime Minister.

He is not a part of the T20I setup anymore though, as he retired from the format last year. Shakib Al Hasan, regular T20I captain for Bangladesh, will be leading the side in the series.

Rashid Khan, meanwhile, returns as captain for Afghanistan in the T20I series. The Afghanistan squad also features the young left-arm wrist-spinner Noor Ahmad, who impressed in the last season of the IPL, as well as veteran wicketkeeper batter Mohammad Shahzad, who is making a comeback to the side.
