Pakistan have qualified for the Super Four after registering a crucial 41-run win over the United Arab Emirates in their Asia Cup 2025 Group A clash.

Batting first in a controversial game that began an hour late, Pakistan were struggling at 67-2 in their first ten overs, before a 14-ball 29* from Shaheen Afridi allowed them to post 146-9 in their 20 overs. Fakhar Zaman was the top-scorer, making 50 off 36 deliveries with three sixes, but no other batter, barring Afridi, could strike over 140 in the innings. He scored 18 runs in the last over, including two sixes and a four, which proved to be a major difference in the end.

In response, the UAE made a steady start and were ahead of the run rate after the fourth over, but the wicket of their skipper Muhammad Waseem was key. Dhruv Parashar and Rahul Chopra contributed with a 48-run stand for the fourth wicket, igniting hope, but a middle-order collapse saw them fall from 85-3 to 105 all out.

With the win, Pakistan have now qualified for the second round of the Asia Cup, assured of a second-place finish in Group A. They played three games, winning two, while UAE have been eliminated, with one win against Oman.

Despite India having one more game to go, their Net Run Rate (+4.793) is unlikely to drop massively in their game with Oman, which will mean they remain the top team from the group heading into the Super Fours.
