Bangladesh entered the match without their captain, Litton Das, making as many as four changes. Standing in for him as their captain was Jaker Ali, who chose to bowl first after winning the toss. Abhishek Sharma starred again, scoring his second consecutive half-century – a 37-ball 75; he had also scored a 39-ball 74 against Pakistan. India’s innings was a story of two contrasting parts. In the first 11 overs, they scored 112-2, but in the next nine, they managed only 56-4.
In response, Bangladesh kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Saif Hassan, who had impressed with a 45-ball 61 against Sri Lanka, put up a lone fight with a 69 off 51 – though he benefited from three dropped chances during his innings. Bangladesh were eventually bowled out for 127 in 19.3 overs, with India winning by 41 runs. Kuldeep Yadav (3-18) was the pick of the bowlers.
With this victory, India stretched their one-sided winning record against Bangladesh further, winning 17 out of 18 matches. Their only loss came in a T20I in 2019.

The result saw India become the first team to qualify for the final. Sri Lanka, meanwhile, have been eliminated, as the maximum points they can get from here on is two – fewer than what is needed to reach the final. This means the Super Fours match between Pakistan and Bangladesh on Thursday (September 25) is a virtual semi-final, with the winner joining India in the title clash.
