Bangladesh kick off Asia Cup Super Fours with victory

Litton Das put Sri Lanka in to bat in Dubai after admitting that he was "confused about the wicket". Lankan openers Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis gave their side a brisk start, but after the two of them were dismissed, there was a middle-overs wobble from 65-2 to 97-4.

Captain Charith Asalanka gave the innings some impetus with 21 off 12 balls, as former skipper Dasun Shanaka, promoted to No.5, also ensured the runs continued to flow. Shanaka finished unbeaten on 64 off 37, including six sixes to help Sri Lanka post 168-7. Mustafizur Rahman was the standout bowler, with 3-20 in four overs.

169 was a challenging ask, and it became even more so after Nuwan Thushara bowled Tanzid Hasan in the first over of the chase. Fellow opener Saif Hassan made headway from one end, as Litton Das gave him company for nearly six overs.

Hassan reached his second T20I half-century off 36 balls, in the company of Towhid Hridoy. He was out for 61, with Bangladesh needing another 55 off six overs after that. Thereafter, Hridoy took charge, relieving the pressure with a 14-run over off Kamindu Mendis and scoring his own fifty off 31 balls.

A flurry of wickets towards the end made things tight, before Nasum Ahmed and Shamim Hossain eventually took Bangladesh home with a ball to spare, and four wickets in hand.
