After a week full of drama following the handshake saga, India and Pakistan met again in the Super Fours stage of the Asia Cup. India captain Suryakumar Yadav won the toss and elected to field first. Pakistan demoted Saim Ayub to No.3 after his three ducks, and the move paid off. Sahibzada Farhan (58 off 45) was the top-scorer and was supprted by Fakhar Zaman (15 off 9), Ayub (21 off 17), and Faheem Ashraf (20 off 8) as Pakistan posted 171-5 in 20 overs.
Jasprit Bumrah had an off day, registering his worst figures in multi-team T20I tournaments (0-45), while Shivam Dube completed his quota of four overs, picking up two important wickets Ayub and Farhan.
India's chase was led by a rapid start by the openers Shubman Gill (47 off 28) and Abhishek Sharma (74 off 39), who added 69-0 in the powerplay. Faheem Ashraf struck first, knocking over Gill's stumps in the 10th over with the team score reading 105. Yadav was dismissed for a duck by Haris Rauf, who became the first bowler to dismiss the Indian captain more than two times in the format. After a briefly nervy period, Sanju Samson (13), Tilak Varma (30*), and Hardik Pandya (7*) took India safely to victory.

India became the second team after Bangladesh to open their account in the Super Fours. Their six-wicket victory with seven balls remaining took their net run rate to +0.689, and sent them to the top of the points table.
