The half-century in the Asia Cup Super Fours game against Pakistan propelled Abhishek Sharma to the fourth place on the all-time list of T20I batters.
Abhishek Sharma inches closer to all-time top spot
Coming into the Oman game with a rating of 884, Abhishek – already at the top of the table – smashed a 15-ball 38. He followed this with a 39-ball 74 to help India chase 172 with seven balls to spare. That propelled his rating to a stunning 907, only 21 matches in his T20I career. Abhishek’s is now the fourth-best ranking in T20I history, after Dawid Malan (919), Suryakumar Yadav (912), and Virat Kohli (909).
Phil Salt rose in ratings from 838 to 844 but remained a distant second. Tilak Varma displaced Jos Buttler at third place, while “SKY” displaced Pathum Nissanka at sixth. On the other hand, a lean run resulted in Kusal Perera dropping from ninth place to 11th.
However, Saif Hassan’s jump from 224th to 81st was the largest among those in the top hundred. Other beneficiaries in the Asia Cup (with leaps of more than five places) include Shubman Gill, Towhid Hridoy, Sahibzada Farhan, Mohammad Nabi, and Kamindu Mendis.
Varun Chakaravarthy extends gap at top
Varun, too, rose from 733 to 747, stretching his gap with Jacob Duffy (717) to 30. Abrar Ahmed’s four overs against India amounted to 1-42, but he had 8-0-21-3 across the two games against the UAE and Sri Lanka. That resulted in him jumping 12 places to fourth.
Another significant beneficiary was Mustafizur Rahman, whose 3-20 from four overs against Sri Lanka saw him rise from 15th place to joint ninth, where he is now tied with Rashid Khan.
Other significant rises include Luke Wood (93rd to 75th), Azmatullah Omarzai (109th to joint 98th), and Haider Ali (62nd to 52nd).
Mohammad Nabi inches close to Hardik Pandya
Pandya’s rating rose from 237 to 238. Nabi’s onslaught and wicket against Sri Lanka helped him rise 18 rating points, but at 231, he is still at second place. In the top ten, Liam Livingstone dropped two places to ninth.
Faheem Ashraf rose 12 places to 39th, while Shaheen Shah Afridi (from 85th) and Salman Ali Agha (from 82nd) are now tied at 71st. The biggest beneficiary in the top hundred, however, was Amir Kaleem, whose two wickets and half-century against India propelled him from 98th to 55th.
