India broke a national record during the course of their victory over UAE in the Asia Cup on Wednesday (September 10).
India crush UAE to kick off Asia Cup defense
In the second match of the tournament, India skipper Suryakumar Yadav won the toss (a 16-game first for India men across formats) and elected to field first in Dubai.
India were heavy favourites for the game, and they proved the backing right with a dominant performance. Jasprit Bumrah got the ball rolling by knocking over Alishan Sharafu for 22 with a yorker in the fourth over. Thereafter, his teammates made light work of the tournament hosts.
UAE opener and skipper Muhammad Waseem was unusually reserved, as wickets tumbled around him. He was eventually the fourth to fall for 19, with the score reading 48. His side only added nine more runs, as no one beyond the openers made more than three. Kuldeep Yadav (4-7) and Shivam Dube (3-4) took 7-11 between them.

Abhishek Sharma hit the first ball of India's chase for six, making it clear the game would not last long. India cleared the boundary at least once in each of the first four overs, the last of those coming from Suryakumar Yadav off the first ball he faced. The Men in Blue finished the chase in 4.3 overs, their fastest in T20I cricket by a full two overs.
India's previous record was a 6.3-over chase of 86 against Scotland in the 2021 T20 World Cup. This is also the second-quickest chase by a Full Member nation in men's T20Is. England hold that record, for their chase of 48 in 3.1 overs against Oman at last year's T20 World Cup.
The overall record belongs to Spain, who completed a chase of 11 against Isle of Man in just 0.2 overs.
