Young Australia pacer Campbell Thompson took 8-25 in a warm-up game to condemn Bangladesh to an innings defeat in a horror start of their tour down under.

Even with only one first-class game under his belt, Thompson led Cricket Australia XI to a massive win, taking eight wickets while giving away only 25 runs in the second innings. Bangladesh were bowled out for 54 to lose by an innings and 38 runs.
The visitors batted first in the three-day warm-up game, but were undone by Corey Rocchiccioli’s off-spin, who returned figures of 6-83. Mehidy Hasan Miraz put up a lone fight, scoring 109 to take Bangladesh to a respectable 263.
In reply, Teague Wyllie, who lost his domestic contract with Western Australia earlier this season, went on to score 130 off 177, and coupled with captain Kurtis Patterson’s 53, helped CA XI score 355 and take a 92-run lead.
Thompson rocked Bangladesh’s second innings by dismissing Shadman Islam and Mominul Haque to close the second day strongly. It didn’t take him long to strike again on the third day, getting the better of Soumya Sarkar and Mushfiqur Rahim in back-to-back overs before ending Tanzid Hasan’s brief rescue act to complete a five-wicket haul.
Tanzid, with 22 off 41, was the only Bangladesh batter to get into double digits. Thompson followed it up with the wicket of Najmul Hossain Shanto, before dismissing Taskin Ahmed and Ebadot Hussain on consecutive deliveries to bowl out Bangladesh and complete a handsome win. Rocchiccioli took two wickets in the second innings as well to complete an eight-wicket match haul.

Bangladesh are on their first Test tour of Australia in 23 years, with the first game of the two-match series set to start on August 13 in Darwin. The second game is scheduled to be played from August 22 in Mackay.
