South Africa spinner Keshav Maharaj has re-taken the spot of No.1 ODI bowler in the world following a career-best effort on Tuesday (August 19).
Keshav Maharaj rises to No.1 on ODI bowling charts
In the first ODI between Australia and South Africa in Cairns, the visitors made 296-8 after being put in, as Aiden Markram top-scored with 82. Australia's chase was going strong at 60-1 in 7.1 overs, before Maharaj ripped the heart out of the batting order with the wickets of Marnus Labuschagne, Cameron Green, Josh Inglis, Alex Carey and Aaron Hardie, all bowled or lbw. It was his first five-wicket haul in ODIs.
As a result, Maharaj has moved up two spots to re-take the No.1 position in the ICC ODI bowling rankings. He first took the spot in November 2023, before being overtaken the following month. West Indies quick Jayden Seales has also risen 17 spots, and now sits at 19th in the world.
In the batting rankings, West Indies captain Shai Hope has gone up two spots to No.7 following his unbeaten 120 against Pakistan in Tarouba.
