David Warner hit a second BBL century in four games to enter an elite T20 club previously featuring only Chris Gayle and Babar Azam.

David Warner becomes third batter to hit 10 T20 hundreds

The retired Australia opener scored an unbeaten 110 for Sydney Thunder in the local derby against the Sixers, his 10th ton in T20 cricket. Warner is the third batter to score 10 T20 centuries; only Gayle (22) and Babar (11) have scored more in the format.

Batting first, he was the aggressor in a 56-run opening partnership with Matthew Gilkes, scoring 42 of those. Warner opened his account with a maximum off his former international teammate Mitchell Starc, cutting him over backward point.

The southpaw then hit Sean Abbott for three fours in the next over before sending Jack Edwards for four boundaries in the one after that. He quickly completed his half-century off 25 deliveries but slowed down considerably after that, taking 18 balls for his next 16 runs.

Two no-balls from Abbott in the 15th over got him going again as he slammed a six and three boundaries in the over to get to 86 off 51 quickly. Warner eventually brought up his century in 61 balls, his third in the BBL. That is the joint-most in the competition, alongside Steve Smith and Ben McDermott. He eventually finished with 110 off 65, taking Thunder to 189.

This was the Australia great’s fourth 50+ score in four BBL innings after his first four games of the season fetched him a combined 44 runs. He returned to form with a 130* against Hobart Hurricanes on January 3, before a 67* against Adelaide Strikers three days later, and 82 vs Brisbane Heat on January 10.

The 110-run knock also took him past the 14,000-run mark in T20 cricket, making him only the fourth player to do so after Chris Gayle, Kieron Pollard and Alex Hales. Warner also went top of the 2025-26 BBL run-scoring chart, with 433 runs in eight innings at a strike-rate of 154.09.
