Leicestershire recorded an extraordinary scorecard in their County Championship fixture against Derbyshire, with three batters scoring centuries and none of the rest reaching double figures as they were bowled out just short of 400.
Playing away from home, Leicestershire were left reeling on day one when they lost both openers before scoring a run. Rishi Patel was caught behind off Luis Reece from the third ball of the match before Sol Budinger was bowled by Blair Tickner five balls later.
That brought Rehan Ahmed and Lewis Hill together in the middle. Rehan has been enjoying a brilliant Championship with the bat, having been promoted up the order from his usual middle-order spot. He hit his fourth century of the season to navigate Leicestershire away from their early trouble, scoring 115 off 139 balls before he was dismissed in the 45th over of the innings.
Leicestershire record three centuries, no double-figure scores in single team innings
Hill had largely played a supporting role at the other end during Rehan's innings, reaching his 50 shortly before the 20-year-old was dismissed. He was then joined at the crease by Peter Handscomb, who struck his own century to take the side to 360-3 at the point of his dismissal. Hill went on to record the highest score of the innings of 151. He was out caught-behind amidst another collapse from the batting side.
Having lost Handscomb, new batter Ian Holland lasted just eight overs before he was dismissed for 8, and Hill fell less than two overs later. Louis Kimber managed just 2 and Ben Green and Logan van Beek both departed without scoring. Liam Trevaskis was the final wicket of the innings to fall, having scored five runs. That meant that, aside from the three centurions, no other batter in Leicestershire's side had reached double figures. Their final total was 398 all out.
Few matches have seen sides with that many centurions without anyone else reaching double figures in the same innings. There was a recent occurrence in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy in 2023, as Rawalpindi's Zeeshan Malik scored 108 and no other batter crossed eight, as they were bowled out for 144.
A Ranji Trophy match between Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh in 2014 came close, when Karun Nair, Robin Uthappa and Chidambaram Gautam all scored exactly 100 runs, while only two other batters passed 10. There were also six ducks in that innings.
