Australia all-rounder Chris Green recorded his best score and bowling figures in first-class cricket in back-to-back County Championship innings.
Chris Green records highest first-class score
Playing for Lancashire against Gloucestershire in Division 2 last week, Green starred with the bat in the first innings. He came to the crease at 209-6, before losing the company of centurion Matty Hurst to leave Lancashire 292-7. At 302-8, Green got together with No. 10 Tom Hartley and the pair both scored centuries, putting on 212 runs.
Green was bowled by Ben Charlesworth to end that stand, but not before he had made a massive 160, his highest first-class score. It was his second first-class century, the first one coming against Derbyshire at the end of June, where he made 121.
Green follows career-best ton with career-best bowling figures
In the latest round of fixtures, Green was once again the star turn. After Glamorgan elected to bat first at Old Trafford on day one (July 29), openers Zain-ul-Hassan and Asa Tribe put on 76 runs, before Green broke through by having the former caught behind for 31 in the 25th over.
Green then ripped through the top-order, accounting for all of Glamorgan's top five – Sam Northeast (10), Tribe (61), Colin Ingram (33) and Kiran Carlson (77) – to complete his third five-for in first-class cricket. Green took a sixth wicket when he had opposition wicketkeeper Chris Cooke stumped for six. The off-spinner finished with 6-82 in 34 overs, his best first-class figures.
Both of Green's previous five-wicket hauls came for New South Wales in the Sheffield Shield – 5-41 against Western Australia in 2022 and 6-83 against the same opposition in 2024.
The ongoing game against Glamorgan is just the 24th first-class match of the 31-year-old's career, having debuted in the format only in 2022. In the 2025 County Championship, he has scored 301 runs at 100.33, and taken 20 wickets at 25.
Green played a solitary international match in 2023, in a T20I against India where he took 0-36 in four overs, and remained not out on two off three balls.
