By the end of day one, Leicestershire were 59-2 having lost openers Sol Budinger and Rishi Patel. On day two, they resumed with Rehan and Lewis Hill at the crease.

Conditions appeared to ease up over the course of the morning session, as the pair scored with relative ease, both reaching half-centuries. They batted on after lunch, both approaching the three-figure mark as well. Rehan was the first to get there, cutting Will Williams to cross the landmark, off 164 balls. This was the third century of his first-class career, and the second of this Championship season.

Ahmed continues solid batting form for Leicestershire

Now 20, Rehan began this season batting at No.6, making an unbeaten 13 when he was promoted to open in a chase of 51 in Leicestershire's season opener. He continued to open, subsequently scoring 13 & 77 against Derbyshire, and then 100 against Lancashire.

His batting form in the past few weeks has been rather more patchy, with two ducks, and a couple of twenties. This latest knock continued to provide evidence of his ability with the bat – even though he broke into England's Test team as a leg-spinner. He bowled just eight overs in the first innings of this match, and 43 in six matches prior, this season.

Rehan has been named in the England Lions squad to take on India A in two four-day games on May 30 and June 6 – also called up is his younger brother Farhan, an off-spinner.
