Yorkshire’s famed batting line-up was bowled out for 205 against Warwickshire at Leeds on day one of the latest round of the 2025 County Championship.

The top six batters from Yorkshire have a combined Test match experience of 200 games, but it could not prevent them from a timid collapse as they lost their first six wickets for 105 on Friday.

Comprising the likes of Joe Root, Harry Brook and skipper Jonny Bairstow, with opener Adam Lyth and spinner Dom Bess also in the XI, Yorkshire lost their first wicket for 23. No.3 batter James Wharton was dismissed by Ethan Bamber, who picked up two wickets in the space of four balls, to leave Yorkshire reeling at 23-2.

The procession continued as Root was next to be dismissed for a 17-ball one off the bowling of right-arm pacer Ed Barnard. Lyth and Brook stitched together a 43-run stand in 57 balls before the former departed for 26. Brook scored 33 in 41 with five fours before becoming Bamber’s third scalp, as Yorkshire fell to 97-5 after they were sent in to bat first.

Bairstow put up a fight, standing tall for 77 balls, making 47 runs, along with No.8 Jordan Thompson, but once the latter was dismissed in the 46th over, Yorkshire crumbled, losing their last four wickets for 39 runs.

Bamber ended with five wickets in the innings, while Barnard got three to put Warwickshire in control. However, their batting innings did not get off to the desired start either, as they were 47-4 at one stage. However, they recovered well and were 151-5 at the time of writing.

Yorkshire are currently eighth among ten teams in Division One, with 40 points, while Warwickshire are fourth with 49.
