James Rew became the youngest player from England in 86 years to score ten first-class hundreds, with his 116 guiding Somerset to a sensational win in the 2025 County Championship.
Rew, 21, has played 45 first-class games since his debut in the tour match against India in 2021. The left-hander notched up his maiden ton in the format in just his fourth game, scoring 101* against Essex in 2022, but could not make another hundred that season.
2023 was when Rew first made waves, when he ended the County Championship with 1,086 runs in 14 games with five hundreds, including a high score of 221. No other batter from Division One made as many hundreds, as he averaged 57.15 that season.

James Rew continues good County Championship 2025 form
Rew was unable to replicate his form the following year, scoring 726 runs at 36.30 in 2024 with two hundreds. He started this season with a knock of 152 against Worcestershire, batting alongside Tom Banton during his epic triple hundred.
On Monday (May 5), he brought up his tenth first-class hundred, with Somerset needing 321 for a win. He walked out at 54-4 and held anchor at one end to take the team over the line, helped by valuable half-centuries from Lewis Gregory and Craig Overton.
Rew is now the youngest Englishman since Denis Compton in 1939 to make ten hundreds in red-ball cricket. Compton had got to the landmark at 20 years and 353 days, while Rew got there at the age of 21 years and 114 days.
