In a 2025 County Championship match at Chelmsford, Hampshire’s Eddie Jack bounced out Essex’s Jordan Cox with a snorter.
Essex captain Tom Westley won the toss and opted to bat in the County Championship match against Hampshire at Chelmsford. Kyle Abbott and James Fuller took out the openers, Paul Walter and Dean Elgar, leaving the hosts at 39-2. Cox joined Westley at this point.
Cox, 24, has been in the radar of the England selectors for some time. Between September and November 2024, he played two T20Is and three ODIs – his only international matches till date – but did not leave a mark. Picked for the second unofficial “Test” against India A earlier this month, Cox made 45 in the first innings but fell for a duck in the second.
Only 19, fast-bowling-all-rounder Jack stands at six foot four. He played in the 2024 Under-19 World Cup as well as in both “Tests” against India A. He claimed four wickets in the two games, of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Nitish Kumar Reddy, KL Rahul, and Dhruv Jurel. All four are Test cricketers who are part of the Indian squad for the ongoing series in England.

In this match, his County Championship debut, Jack had opened bowling with Abbott, but Hampshire captain Ben Brown had taken him off after three overs. Brown recalled Jack with Essex on 44-2 after 14 overs.
Jack’s first ball landed on a length, but his extra height made the ball really take off. It came too quickly in front of Cox’s face, and he instinctively raised his hands to protect his face. The ball took the gloves and ballooned to Fuller at third slip, and Cox walked back for a duck.
Westley and Matt Critchley helped Essex recover from 44-3. At the time of writing, Essex were 90-3 with Westley (26) and Critchley (33) at the crease.
