England Test spinner Jack Leach then starred with the ball, finishing with 7-69 as opening batter and off-spinner Archie Vaughan took the other three wickets. Hampshire were bowled out for 172, and were asked to follow on.

They lost the wicket of Ali Orr late on day two, lbw to Vaughan for 27. That wicket was a sign of things to come on the final day. Hampshire's progress with the bat was slow, as they attempted to play for the draw, precious points in their fight against relegation.

Five overs into day four, Vaughan got rid of Orr's opening partner, Fletcha Middleton for a 77-ball nine. It took nearly 20 more overs for the next breakthrough, once again provided by Vaughan who trapped Toby Albert in front. Nick Gubbins and Ben Brown then put on 64 in 242 balls, before the former was caught at silly point off Vaughan, for a fourth wicket.

Leach removed Brown, before India international Washington Sundar provided a change of pace, hitting nine fours in his 46 off 55, before Vaughan got one to skid on and bowl the left-hander between bat and pad.

James Fuller and Felix Organ hung around for 14 overs, but the latter became Leach's second victim after taking 82 balls to score four runs. Vaughan took his sixth of the innings when he knocked over Fuller, before Keith Barker and Kyle Abbott survived five overs for the draw. Vaughan bowled 50 overs for his 6-96, while Leach took 2-40 in 49.5.

Somerset play Essex at Chelmsford in their final match of the season, while Hampshire will host title-chasing Surrey.
