Jaydev Unadkat, playing his first game in this year’s County Championship, scalped four wickets for Sussex against Hampshire at Hove on Tuesday (September 9).
Batting first, Hampshire were dismissed for 226 in the first innings, where Unadkat picked up two wickets. Barring skipper Ben Brown (71 in 129), no other batter managed more than 25 runs, with the number of extras - 24 - being the second-highest contributor.
In reply, Sussex could only manage 122, with Tom Alsop top-scoring with 39 off 75 balls.

Sussex, currently sixth in Division One, needed an inspired bowling effort to stand a chance in the game after they conceded a 104-run lead. They got off to a sensational start, courtesy of Unadkat, who dismissed Fletcha Middleton and Nick Gubbins in the space of three balls in his first over of the second innings. Ollie Robinson opened the bowling for Sussex, but it was Unadkat who gave them the first breakthrough, as he sent Middleton’s off-stump flying.

Two balls later, Gubbins attempted to leave a lifter but could only glove to James Coles at gully. Hampshire finished the second over at 2-2. Coles ran through the middle order as Hampshire fell to 89-7, but a fighting stand between Keith Barker and James Fuller took them over 120.
Unadkat returned to pick up two of the last three wickets to fall, finishing with 4-50, as Hampshire were bowled out for 173, giving Sussex a target of 278.
The pacer, who first played for Sussex in 2023, signed a two-year extension with the club last season and will remain with the club till 2026. He will, however, only be available for the final few games both years.
