Watch: Ishan Kishan and Mohammad Abbas combined for the second County Championship dismissal in a week on the opening day of Nottinghamshire’s match against Somerset at Taunton.
The prospect of an Indian and a Pakistani international playing in the same XI is rare. However, the County Championship has witnessed several such pairings over the years, the latest being India wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan and Pakistan seamer Mohammad Abbas.
The duo combined for their first dismissal on the very first ball they fielded together in Nottinghamshire’s Championship match against Yorkshire between June 22 and 25. Opener Adam Lyth nicked a defensive shot and was caught behind.
A week after their first dismissal, the duo combined again – with Kishan, playing his final match of a short stint, featuring against Somerset. In the first innings, after Sean Dickson (0) and Tom Lammonby (2) fell to Brett Hutton, Abbas claimed the third wicket: Tom Kohler-Cadmore, reducing Somerset to 46-3. Abbas’ masterful craft was on full display as he lured Kohler-Cadmore into edging a length ball in the channel through to keeper Kishan, who completed a straightforward catch.
Abbas struck twice more, dismissing Archie Vaughan for 35 and Kasey Aldridge for 7, as Somerset reached 275-6 at stumps on day one.
