Jonny Bairstow is foxed by Khaleel Ahmed during India bowler's Essex debut

Watch: Khaleel Ahmed fooled England Test veteran Jonny Bairstow with a wide bouncer ploy to take his first County Championship wicket today (July 1).

The India bowler struck early on day three at York, playing his first match for Essex since signing with the club for the remainder of the season. Yorkshire started the day on 143-3, having lost wickets in the evening on day two, still trailing by 225 runs. Bairstow was at the crease on 14 not out, with Adam Lyth batting on 65 at the other end.

Having bowled without getting into the wickets column the previous day, Khaleel was into the action early in the morning, and found success in the seventh over of the day. He employed a wide bouncer policy to Bairstow, the former England Test wicketkeeper coming on strike to the fourth ball. Khaleel bent his back and banged the ball into the pitch well wide of Bairstow, who chased after it. The ball went through to the keeper with Dean Elgar briefly appealing from slip.

However, the umpire was uninterested in the appeal and Bairstow lined up once more. Khaleel sent down an almost identical delivery which Bairstow wafted his bat at again, but this time the ball scratched his outside edge. It went through to the keeper and Khaleel wheeled away in celebration of his first wicket in Essex colours.

Bairstow departed for 29, leaving Yorkshire on 169-4. The home side did, however, manage to secure a first innings lead, with Matthew Revis hitting 150 as Yorkshire reached 459. Essex slipped to 13-2 in the evening session in their reply.
