Yorkshire have signed Imam-ul-Haq for the remainder of the One Day Cup and the County Championship season.
Imam will be available for selection straightaway, after making the squad for this week’s four-day clash against Surrey on July 22. He will be in contention to play all five County Championship games remaining in the season, and has also been signed up for Yorkshire's last eight games in the One-Day Cup. Imam will also remain with the side if they progress further in either competition.
The 29-year-old, also the nephew of Inzamam-ul-Haq, last played for Pakistan in the ODIs against New Zealand earlier this year. He has not played a Test match since his last appearance at the MCG in December 2023, while his last T20I outing came in November 2019. Overall, Imam has played 24 Tests, making 1,568 runs at 37.33, and 75 ODIs, where he averages 47.04. He also has two T20I appearances.
Imam replaces Ruturaj Gaikwad in Yorkshire
Imam, who averages 43.27 in 84 first-class matches and 44.21 in 115 List A games, will replace India batter and CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad in Yorkshire’s squad. Gaikwad withdrew from his multi-format stint just days ahead of his scheduled debut due to personal reasons. He was expected to make his debut for the club against Surrey at Scarborough, and Yorkshire’s head coach Anthony McGrath had expressed that finding a replacement in a short time would be a challenge.
After Imam’s signing, Gavin Hamilton, general manager of Yorkshire, expressed gratitude at the “speed” at which Imam arrived in the country. “Whilst we were naturally disappointed that Ruturaj couldn’t join up with the squad, in Imam we have an exceptional player of proven international quality.
Imam has an impressive record and is already familiar with domestic cricket in this country which will stand us in good stead for a crucial block of fixtures. We are grateful for the speed in which he has arrived in the country and everyone at the Club is looking forward to working with him through until the end of the season.”
