Harry Brook bowled the most overs in a single game of his first-class career on his Championship return for Yorkshire, sending down 18 overs in Warwickshire's second innings at Edgbaston.
The England white-ball captain was making his first County Championship appearance in more than a year in Birmingham. While he didn't bowl at all in Warwickshire's first innings, and was dismissed for 40 off 58 balls as Yorkshire collapsed to 152 all out, he sent down 18 overs as the hosts racked up 553-6 declared.
Sam Hain scored an unbeaten 164, while Rob Yates, Dan Mousley, Ed Barnard and Zen Malik all passed 50 to make the Yorkshire attack toil. With their frontline bowlers tiring, Yorkshire cycled through their all-rounders in Matthew Revis, as well as spinner Dom Bess,
before turning to Brook. Having sent down 10 overs by the end of day two, Brook was required to bowl another eight overs of his medium pace on day three before Warwickshire pulled the plug. He ended the innings with figures of 0-66.
Harry Brook sends down longest first-class spell of career
Those 18 overs are the most Brook has ever bowled in a first-class innings. His previous highest was a 17-over stint against Lancashire in 2021, where he returned figures of 0-37.
While Brook is not normally required to bowl for longer stints at county or England level, he has had some memorable success when turning his arm over. He was brought on to bowl for the first time in a Test match in the Wellington Test of 2023 – which New Zealand won by one run – and dismissed Kane Williamson in his second over, getting him caught down the leg side. That remains Brook's only international wicket, having sent 16 overs down in Tests since that match.
Yorkshire were bowled out for 171 in response to a target of 549 – with Brook caught and bowled by Jordan Thompson for 26 off 39.
