Ollie Robinson brought up his second first-class century with a six in a County Championship rescue act for Sussex against Surrey on Friday (May 1).
Ollie Robinson brings up hundred with a six in rescue act for Sussex from No.10
Sean Abbott dismissed Tom Haines for a duck in the second over to give Surrey a flying start on a green Oval deck. Daniel Hughes and Tom Clark together added 63 for the second wicket before Jordan Clark triggered an epic collapse, taking five wickets in six overs. Matthew Fisher joined in to pick up a wicket as Sussex were reduced to 92-7 in the first session.
Nos.8 and 9 Fynn Hudson-Prentice and Jack Carson then dug deep to restore some parity, adding 71 runs in only 12.1 overs to take the side to 167. Fisher then removed Hudson-Prentice, who fell for 53 off 58 trying to hit a second maximum of his innings, when Robinson joined Carson.

The two went about rescuing the innings and ensured Sussex went into lunch without any more hiccups, adding 107 runs together in the afternoon session following Hudson-Prentice’s dismissal. The duo returned in the third session of the day to complete their respective hundreds. Carson was first to get to three figures, his second first-class ton as well, before Fisher found his outside edge.
Robinson, who was batting on 83 when Carson fell, brought up his hundred with a double, two fours, a single, and a six. Also the skipper for Sussex, Robinson declared the innings for 358-9 immediately after getting to his century. Interestingly, Robinson’s first hundred in the format also came in a rescue act for Sussex. On his first-class debut, he scored 110 off 112 from No.9, helping the side recover from 145-7 to 335.
The right-arm pacer has so far picked up 10 wickets at 21.70, with a best of 5-42, in four matches of the County Championship this season.
