Former Australia quick Daniel Worrall, who is now eligible to represent England, picked up 5-35 in his maiden County Championship match of the ongoing season.

Worrall made his ODI debut for Australia in 2016, playing three games and picking up one wicket. His last appearance was against South Africa in October 2016. Since then, he joined Surrey as a local in 2022 through his British passport.

He then served a three-year residency period, which made him eligible to represent England last year, and he has been tipped to play for his new country by David Warner and Alec Stewart. England director Rob Key has also not ruled out a call-up.

Worrall, who ended with 32 wickets from nine games at 26.65 last season, did not play the first few games of the season due to workload management. He finally took the field against Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge today (May 8), picking up five wickets in 15 overs.

Opening the bowling, he dismissed skipper Haseeb Hameed for seven before dismissing Ben Slater. No.3 Ben Duckett and Joe Clarke then steadied the ship, taking the team from 18-2 to 105, before Duckett fell to Worrall. Haynes scored 82, while Clarke made an unbeaten 119, as the team crossed 250. Worrall was the wrecker-in-chief again as Haynes was caught and bowled by the seamer. He also dismissed Kyle Verreynne for a duck, picking up his 17th first-class five-for.

Before the game, 34-year-old Worrall had 405 wickets at 25.47 from 105 games. He has also taken 50 List A wickets and has 108 T20 scalps.
