Zak Crawley was given out during the 2026 County Championship clash between Worcestershire and Kent to continue his dismal form in the tournament.

Crawley’s England place is under the scanner after a string of low scores in the early rounds of the domestic summer. During the Ashes, he amassed 273 runs in five Tests at 27.30, without a hundred. Since 2024, the opener has averaged 30.71 from 45 innings, with one hundred and 11 fifties, as questions rose around his form.

      Crawley continues woeful first-class run

The County Championship, thus, was extremely crucial for Crawley. However, he did not get off to the desired start, making 9 and 20 for Kent against Durham, while he scored 31 runs across two innings against Northamptonshire.

Playing against Worcestershire, Crawley walked out to open the innings alongside Ben Compton. The latter departed for four, but Crawley kept going at a decent pace, scoring 27 off the first 41 balls. However, a controversial call soon resulted in his dismissal: Matthew Waite, bowling his first over, sent down a delivery that came in slightly. Crawley was declared out after seemingly edging the ball to slips, where Gareth Roderick held onto the catch. The umpire raised his finger immediately, but Crawley was not pleased as he held his ground, looking at the official before walking back.

Replays proved inconclusive, with the zoomed-in cameras not enough to suggest whether he had nicked the ball or not. The County Championship does not have access to the DRS across all games.

Kent were 171-9 in the 65th over, with no batter crossing 40 at the time of writing.
