Asa Tribe slammed his fifth first-class century, playing for Glamorgan against Surrey, in the second innings to put his team in a strong position.

Tribe showcased his skills to bat patiently while opening the innings, batting for a staggering 473 minutes and scoring 155 off 337 deliveries with 16 fours. This is also his first century of the County Championship season: he also has four half-centuries.

The 22-year-old played some eye-catching strokes to treat the sparse crowd at The Oval. He added 87 for the first wicket with Zain-ul-Hassan (33) and 114 for the second with skipper Kiran Carlson (57).

Ben Kellaway also supported him well with 43, but none of them could convert their starts. Tribe, who has played five ODIs and 26 T20Is for Jersey hopes to play for England, kept going strong even with wickets falling at the other end and brought up a brilliant century.

He didn’t give away his wicket after reaching his ton and made sure to bat through the second day, reaching 142 by stumps. On the third morning, he was dismissed for 155 by Auqib Nabi, but Glamorgan had reached 367 runs by then and were in a strong position.

As for the match, Glamorgan’s first innings had lasted only 45.5 overs as they were bundled out for 132. Tribe (31) was one of their only two batters to cross the 30-run mark as Nabi dismissed him in the first innings too.

Surrey lasted even less, being skittled for just 115 as Glamorgan eked out a 17-run lead. Tribe’s century in the second innings has put them in a strong position as they will be keen on batting Surrey out of the game. At the time of writing, the visitors were 395-7, with an overall lead of 412 with Mason Crane and Timm van der Gugten at the crease.
