Rahul Chahar poses with Surrey cricket cap

India leg-spinner Rahul Chahar has re-signed for Surrey for the second half of the 2026 County Championship, following taking a 10-for on debut for the club last year.

Chahar has signed up to play the last eight matches of the County Championship for Surrey, starting with their fixture against Hampshire at The Oval in early June.

The 26-year-old mad one appearance for Surrey last year, starring in their September fixture against Hampshire. He took eight wickets in the second innings of the match to secure a win by just 20 runs. His second innings 8-15 broke a 166-year old record for the best first-class figures on debut for Surrey, and added to his two wickets in the first innings to give him his career-best match figures in the format of 10-118.

Chahar, who has joined Chennai Super Kings for the upcoming Indian Premier League season, has represented India seven times in white-ball cricket. He last represented India in November 2021 in that year's T20 World Cup. He has taken 101 first-class wickets during his career, and plays for Rajasthan in the Ranji Trophy.

Chahar was also a key part of the Mumbai Indians team who won the 2019 and 2020 IPL tournaments, taking 28 wickets across both seasons combined. He was bought by Punjab Kings in 2022, before moving to Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2023.

Chahar: 'I jumped at the opportunity to come back'

Speaking on his signing, Chahar said: “I’m so excited to be coming back to Surrey this season. I really enjoyed my short spell in 2025 and jumped at the opportunity to come back this season when I spoke to Alec Stewart.

“Surrey is a successful Club and I want to help the team achieve its goals in 2026.”
