Manav Suthar continued his excellent County Championship stint with Warwickshire to pick up his second five-for of the season in their eight-wicket win over Essex.
Left-arm spinner Suthar made up for a wicketless first innings to pick up five wickets in the second, helping Warwickshire skittle Essex for a meagre total. He dismissed Paul Walter, Dean Elgar, Matt Critchley, George Bell and Sam Cook, bowling 24 out of 59.5 overs in the innings.
Suthar had picked up a five-for earlier in the season against Somerset in June when the county had signed him only for two matches. He was coming on the back of a sensational Test debut against Afghanistan then, where he picked up a six-for in his debut innings.

Suthar hasn’t looked back since, finishing as the highest wicket-taker in the two-match Test series in Sri Lanka with 16 scalps at 21.06. Warwickshire signed him again for the back end of the County Championship, and the 24-year-old continued to perform superbly. Overall, he has picked up 26 wickets this season in 10 innings and has the second-best bowling average of 19.46.
In the match, Essex could muster only 134 in the first innings after opting to bat, with Ethan Bamber running through their line-up with a six-for. Warwickshire also didn’t have it easy with the bat, but Sam Hain’s unbeaten 88 meant they took a crucial lead of 57.
Suthar spun a web around the hosts in the second innings to bundle them out for 189. Warwickshire then chased down the target of 133 in just 25.3 overs with eight wickets in hand to reclaim the top spot in the points table and get closer to the Championship title.
