Emilio Gay continued with his excellent form in the 2026 County Championship to hit his third hundred in four games.

Gay began the season for Durham with 128 – the only half-century of the innings – in a home game, where Kent clung on for a draw. He failed against Gloucestershire where Durham amassed 605-5 and won by an innings.
Back on home turf, he hit 41 and 159 not out against Lancashire. The fourth-innings performance helped Durham chase 336 and win by eight wickets after they were 46-2: Gay added an unbroken 290 with David Bedingham. His excellent form brought him in contention for a Test cap.
Having represented Italy in the lead up to the 2026 T20 World Cup, Gay had turned down an offer to play for the West Indies (his father’s family is from Grenada). He has represented the England Lions, and has set his sight on an England cap.
Now, at Lord’s, Middlesex rode on Ryan Higgins’s 131 to amass 430 after Leus du Plooy won the toss and opted to bat even as Ben Raine returned 5-58. Emerging at 19-1, Gay helped Durham reach 135-1 at stumps on the second day. Ben McKinney (58) fell on 152 on the third morning, but Gay and Bedingham got together to add another 153 for the third wicket.
By the time Joshua De Caires bowled him, Gay had scored a 198-ball 129 with 14 fours and a six – his third hundred of the season.
At the time of writing, Durham were 367-5 with Bedingham (133) and Kasey Aldridge (19) at the crease. They trail by 63 runs in the first innings.
