Sidelined England fast-bowler Brydon Carse took his first five-wicket-haul in the County Championship for Durham since 2021 in their fixture against Middlesex.
Carse opened his account for the game on the evening of the opening day after Durham were bowled out for 252. He dismissed both openers within the first 10 overs of Middlesex's reply, both caught at third slip by Colin Ackerman.
Wickets tumbled the following morning as Middlesex lost 4-41, to go from 113-2 to 154-6. Carse took none of those, however, as Ben Raine did the majority of the damage. A five-for for Carse didn't look on the cards with Middlesex seven down, and Carse needing all of the final three to complete his set.
However, he pinned Sebastian Morgan lbw, and finished off the innings with two in the same over, getting Tom Helm caught behind before trapping Naavya Sharma lbw to consign Middlesex to 203 all out. Carse's figures read 5-72 off 19 overs.
That five-for is the first for Carse in the County Championship since April 2021, when he took five wickets against Warwickshire in the final innings of the game, to complete a dominant Durham win by an innings and 127 runs.

This particular milestone comes amid a difficult period for Carse. Having been England's leading wicket taker in last winter's Ashes, albeit coming under criticism as part of an ineffective pace attack, he was injured ahead of the IPL, and missed the start of the English season.
He didn't feature in any of England's Test XIs against New Zealand as he recovered from his injury, but returned to The Hundred and County Championship last month. He was also included in England's squad for their first Test against Pakistan in August.
However, while out celebrating Durham's victory over Derby, he was filmed being put in handcuffs by police in the early hours of the morning, continuing a string of incidents concerning England's relationship with alcohol. He was removed from England's squad for the second Test after the Cricket Regulator launched an investigation into the incident. Subsequently, he was left out of England's squad for the third Test against Pakistan, and their white-ball squads to face Sri Lanka.
