Riyan Parag, who hit a beautiful drive for six in the Duleep Trophy on Thursday.

Riyan Parag hit a sumptuous six in the second round of the Duleep Trophy on Thursday (September 12).

In the second round of matches, Parag was representing India 'A' against India 'D' at the Rural Development Trust "A" Stadium in Anantapur. Both sides were in need of a win after losing their respective first-round matches.

India 'D' captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and chose to field first. Opposition skipper Mayank Agarwal was the first to go, nicking behind off a beauty from pacer Vidwath Kaverappa. Kaverappa took a second wicket when Pratham Singh holed out at deep fine leg.

Parag walked to the crease at 21-2 in the tenth over. He started positively, and off the sixth ball he faced, hit his first boundary. As Kaverappa pitched it up to him, Parag planted his front foot down the wicket and played with a straight bat, driving perfectly through the line of the ball and lofting it for six.

The batter continued to play aggressively, and got the better of India international Arshdeep Singh, hitting him for four boundaries. Arshdeep had the last laugh, though, as he dismissed Parag for a 29-ball 37.

At the time of writing, India 'A' were 123-5, with Kumar Kushagra and Shams Mulani in the middle.
