England add seam-bowling all-rounder to squad for fifth Test

England squad for fifth Test

England have named their squad for the fifth Test match against India at The Oval, starting July 31.

ENG vs IND: Hosts add Jamie Overton to squad

All-rounder Jamie Overton has been added as the 15th member of the England squad for the fifth and final Test match of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, which starts just four days after the end of the Old Trafford Test.

Overton has played only one Test match, against New Zealand in 2022, but was part of the England squad earlier in the ongoing series.

England sent down 257.1 overs across the two innings of the fourth Test in Manchester, with their seamers as well as spinner Liam Dawson going through heavy workloads. Ben Stokes was seen clutching his right shoulder on the fifth day as he bowled, raising injury concerns as well. He hasn't, however, ruled himself out of the fifth Test yet.

Chris Woakes and Brydon Carse have played all four games so far, while Jofra Archer has now played back-to-back Tests after a four-year absence from the format. All this, coupled with the short turnaround time could force England to make some changes to their bowling lineup for the last match of the series, which they currently lead 2-1.

Apart from the addition of Overton, the rest of the squad remains the same.
