England recall Liam Dawson

England have named their squad for the fourth Test against India at Old Trafford, recalling all-rounder Liam Dawson in place of the injured Shoaib Bashir

Shoaib Bashir, who took the final wicket in the Lord's Test, was ruled out of the rest of the India series an hour after the match ended due to a broken finger which he suffered while bowling in the first innings.

England have announced his replacement and the rest of the squad for the fourth Test, scheduled to start at Old Trafford, Manchester on July 23.

Liam Dawson replaces Shoaib Bashir

Dawson, 35, has been recalled to the Test side after eight years to replace Bashir. The left-arm spinner and right-hand batter has played three Tests so far, having made his debut on the 2016 India tour. His last Test came at home against South Africa in 2017.

Dawson has been a consistent performer in the County Championship for several seasons now and calls for including him in the England Test setup have been aplenty. Recently, he was recalled to the England T20I side that took on West Indies, where he took five wickets in three games. In first-class cricket, Dawson has scored 10,731 runs at 35.29 with the bat and has picked up 371 wickets at 31.54 with the ball.

In addition to Dawson replacing Bashir, England have also released seamers Sam Cook and Jamie Overton from the squad for the fourth Test, allowing them to play in the County Championship instead.
