The skies remained overcast, but there was no stoppage due to rain, until the action shifted to the second day, and England bowled India out for 471. Having collapsed from 430-3, losing seven wickets for 41 runs, India would have been looking to make early inroads, but showers intervened.
Rain reappeared on day five, with England dominating the first half of the day in their chase of 371.
