India seamer Mohammed Siraj has been penalised for his send-off to England opener Ben Duckett during the third innings of the ongoing Lord’s Test match.
Siraj was guilty of breaching Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to "using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon his/her dismissal during an International Match."
Siraj is under scrutiny for a potential violation of Clause (a), which prohibits "excessive celebration directed at and in close proximity to the dismissed batter."
Why was Siraj fined?
The incident for which Siraj was found guilty occurred during the first session on day four, when he dismissed England opener Ben Duckett for 12 in a fiery morning spell. However, Nasser Hussain noted in commentary that it was Duckett who initially approached Siraj. This came a day after India had been involved in a heated exchange with Duckett's opening partner Zak Crawley.

Siraj was fined 15 per cent of his match fee and received one demerit point, adding to his disciplinary record. This marks his second offence within 24 months, bringing his total demerit points to two. Under ICC regulations, accumulating four or more demerit points within this period converts them into suspension points, resulting in an automatic match ban.
The charges were brought by on-field umpires Paul Reiffel and Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid, third umpire Ahsan Raza, and reserve umpire Graham Lloyd, with match referee Richie Richardson imposing the sanction.
India captain Shubman Gill, who swore at Crawley during the previously mentioned heated exchange on day four, may also be found guilty for potential violations of the players’ conduct code. Additionally, his complaints about the ball condition could be interpreted as dissent against the umpires. However, he has yet to face any formal sanctions.
