Jofra Archer Test comeback

England have picked Jofra Archer in their squad for the second Test of the series against India.

Jofra Archer returns to England Test squad after four years

Archer makes a long-awaited comeback to the England Test side, four years after playing his last red-ball game for the country. He has been added as the 15th member of the squad, the rest of which remains the same as that picked for the first Test.

Archer made his first-class comeback this week in a County Championship game for Sussex against Durham, where he picked up 1-32 with the ball in the only innings he bowled, and played a cameo of 31 with the bat.

Having made his Test debut in the 2019 Ashes, Archer has played only 13 Tests so far in a career that has been riddled with injuries. He has 42 wickets to his name at an average of 31.02. His last Test was also against India, in Ahmedabad in 2021, where he had a minimal role to play, picking up 1-24 from four overs in the first innings and not bowling at all in the second.

In the first Test of the ongoing series, England's fast bowling attack was made up of Chris Woakes, Brydon Carse, Josh Tongue, and skipper Ben Stokes. It remains to be seen who Archer could replace in the XI.

The second Test starts on July 2 at Edgbaston, Birmingham, followed by the third Test at Lord's from July 10, the fourth at Old Trafford from July 23, and the fifth at The Oval from July 31.
