Watch: Ben Stokes cleans up centurion Yashasvi Jaiswal with searing top-of-off beauty

Watch: Ben Stokes ended Yashasvi Jaiswal’s sensational century on the first day of the England-India Test series with a ball to match the innings’ quality, sending the bails flying.

England’s captain was the pick of their bowlers on day one at Headingley, dismissing debutant Sai Sudharsan before lunch and threatening more than their specialist seamers. His best moment came soon after tea, with Jaiswal having brought up a century just before the break and, having had time to recover from a bout of cramp, seemingly set on another daddy hundred.

All of his previous centuries had crossed 150, but this would be ended one run past the three-figure mark as Stokes steamed in. He delivered at 140kph on the perfect length and found enough seam away to beat Jaiswal’s defensive push and send the bails flying.

After struggling significantly with hamstring and knee injuries, Stokes made a return to action against Zimbabwe at Trent Bridge and bowled with venom. Even as England’s other bowlers floundered, his efforts at Headingley will encourage home fans that their talisman can play a full part in a defining ten-Test stretch for his side with both bat and ball.
