England were hit with the first points deduction of the 2025-27 World Test Championship, for a slow over-rate against India at Lord's. Here are the updated standings.

On July 16, two days after the conclusion of the Lord's Test in which England beat India by 22 runs, an ICC statement announced that the hosts had been docked two World Test Championship points, for falling two overs behind the required over-rate in the match.

“This came under Article 16.11.2 of the ICC World Test Championship playing conditions, by which a side is penalised one point for each over short, and after time allowances were taken into consideration,” read the release.
The decision was not challenged by England captain Ben Stokes. In accordance with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct, England's players were also fined 10 per cent of their match fees (five per cent for each over by which they were short).

England were the most affected by over-rate penalties in the two previous WTC cycles as well, losing 22 points in 2023-25 and 12 points in 2021-23. The loss of two points here has seen their points percentage slip from 66.67 to 61.11, pushing them from second to third in the standings. Sri Lanka have now moved into second place, behind Australia.
England's next fixture is on July 23, at Old Trafford against India. With two Tests left in the series, they are 2-1 up in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.
