Jos Buttler and Harry Brook combined for a world-record stand in the fifth T20I against India to post a massive 257.
Brook and Buttler added 233 runs for the third wicket to deepen India’s woes on what has been a disappointing tour of the UK and Ireland so far for the T20 world champions. They are yet to register a win in six matches. The duo came together in the second over after Prasidh Krishna sent Phil Salt back, and were only separated 103 deliveries later in the 19th.
Their 233-run stand was the highest-ever for the second wicket in men’s T20Is and just three runs short of the biggest partnership for full-member sides for any wicket. Afghanistan’s Usman Ghani and Hazratullah Zazai hold that record, having accumulated 236 runs together for the first wicket against Ireland in 2019.
Overall, Japan’s Lachlan Yamamoto-Lake and Kendel Kadowaki-Fleming hold the record for the highest T20I partnership. The opener duo had together added an unbeaten 258 runs against China in February 2024. Germany’s Musaddiq Ahmed and Ben Kohler-Cadmore are second with a 238-run stand against Austria in May earlier this year.
This was also England’s highest-ever T20I total against India, bettering the 246-7 they finished with at the T20 World Cup earlier this year, and their third-highest overall. Their 304-2 against South Africa in September 2025 holds the top spot, while a 267-3 against the West Indies in 2023 is second on the list.
Buttler, who scored his second T20I ton, slamming 131 off 64, now holds the record for the second-highest score for England men in a T20I, behind Phil Salt’s 141*. Captain Brook, meanwhile, added to his scintillating 35-ball 79 in the fourth T20I, to finish with 95* off 45 in the ongoing game in Southampton.
