ENG vs IND 2026 T20Is: Team news

Harry Brook will lead England in the first T20I against India, 48 hours after the third Test against New Zealand ended on Monday (June 29). Sussex all-rounder James Coles has earned his maiden call-up for the series.

Jordan Cox, Sonny Baker and Saqib Mahmood have been included in the squad as well. Ben Duckett has been dropped from the squad that played the T20 World Cup, while Jamie Overton is missing out due to a quad injury. Jos Buttler has retained his place and is expected to open the innings alongside Phil Salt. Jofra Archer is unlikely to play the series opener after sending down 39.5 overs in the third Test against New Zealand.

Meanwhile, India have got little time to ponder over their issues after a shocking 2-0 series loss to Ireland. Shreyas Iyer’s captaincy debutmdidn’t go according to plan, and there will be pressure on him to deliver results in this series.

There are more calls to hand a debut to Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who warmed the bench against Ireland. However, one of Sanju Samson, Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan must be left out of the playing XI to accommodate the youngster. Varun Chakravarthy is also set to return to India’s playing XI and in that case, Prince Yadav might have to make way for him despite picking three wickets on debut against Ireland.
