India have announced their women's ODI and T20I squads for the tour of England later this month, with a star opener remaining sidelined.
Conspicuous by her absence from the ODI squad is former teenage prodigy Shafali Verma, who has not played a 50-over game for India since October 29, 2024. She was left out of squads to tour Australia, and play at home against West Indies and Ireland. Verma did not return for the recently concluded tri-series in Sri Lanka either, which India won. The England series is India's last before the World Cup on home soil in September. Verma has been recalled to the T20I setup, though.
Harmanpreet Kaur and Smriti Mandhana have been named captain and vice-captain respectively for both squads, which bear almost identical looks. In place of Verma in the ODI squad is Pratika Rawal, who has made a record-breaking start to her ODI career. Middle-order batter Tejal Hasabnis is also in the ODI squad, making it a 16-member one compared to 15 for the T20Is.
India's bowling attack bears a somewhat inexperienced look. Sree Charani, Shuchi Upadhyay, Kranti Gaud and Sayali Satghare all made their international debuts only this year and will rely heavily on the likes of Amanjot Kaur, Arundhati Reddy, Sneh Rana and Deepti Sharma to guide them.
The two sides will face off in five T20Is and three ODIs on this tour, between June 28, 2025 and July 22, 2025.
