Pakistan have been docked 11 World Test Championship points for maintaining a slow over-rate in the third Test of their recently concluded series against England at Edgbaston.
Just when it seemed like Pakistan's Test woes had come to an end for the time being following their 3-0 whitewash against England, they have now been hit with an over-rate penalty. ICC announced on Monday that the visitors were found to be 11 overs short of the required quota in the Edgbaston Test.
According to article 16.11.2 of the WTC playing conditions, "a side is penalised one point for each over short" after time allowances are taken into consideration. Similarly, article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel states that "players are fined five per cent of their match fee for each over their team fails to bowl within the allotted time, with the maximum penalty capped at 50 per cent of the match fee."
Thus, Pakistan were docked 11 WTC points, with every player also fined 50 per cent of their match fees.

Pakistan have managed only two victories in nine Tests of the ongoing WTC cycle so far, with seven defeats. And following the recent penalty, their points tally has gone down to just five. Notably, they were also docked eight points for slow over-rate against Bangladesh in the Dhaka Test earlier this year, thus taking their total docked points to 19 in the ongoing WTC cycle.
The Babar Azam-led side are rock bottom of the WTC table as a result, with a PCT of 4.63. They have also dropped down to ninth in the ICC men's Test team rankings after being the top-ranked Test side in the world a deccade ago in 2016.
