Rehan Ahmed and Ben Duckett playing for England in an ODI

England and South Africa will kick off an ODI series this week, as both sides look to start their road to the 2027 World Cup. Here are the full squads for the ENG vs SA 50-over series, including injury replacements.

With both sides at full strength, the series gives a rare opportunity to test their skills outside of a World Cup year. England's all-format stars have been made available at the end of the season, ahead of several of them heading to the Southern hemisphere for white-ball series' against New Zealand, and the marquee Ashes series. For South Africa, they come into the series having recently beaten Australia in an ODI contest, despite conceding over 400 in the final match of the series.

ENG v SA ODI series schedule

The series will begin on Tuesday, September 2, in Leeds, before travelling southwards for the second match two days later. After playing at Lord's on Thursday, September 4, the final match of the series will be played three days later in Southampton at Utilita Bowl.

The ODI series will be followed by a T20I series which concludes on September 14.

ENG v SA ODI squads

England squad

Harry Brook (c), Rehan Ahmed, Jofra Archer, Sonny Baker, Tom Banton, Jacob Bethell, Jos Buttler (wk), Brydon Carse, Ben Duckett, Will Jacks, Saqib Mahmood, Jamie Overton, Adil Rashid, Joe Root, Jamie Smith (wk).

England have picked a similar looking ODI squad to their series at the start of their home summer against West Indies. Phil Salt returns after missing that series to take paternity leave, but with Jamie Smith also in the squad, the two will compete for the second opener slot alongside Ben Duckett. Rising star Sonny Baker has also been selected in a senior international squad for the first time after impressing in The Hundred with some hostile bowling. He'll be part of a pace attack which includes Jofra Archer and Saqib Mahmood.

South Africa squad

Temba Bavuma (c), Corbin Bosch, Matthew Breetzke, Dewald Brevis, Nandre Burger, Tony de Zorzi, Keshav Maharaj, Kwena Maphaka, Aiden Markram, Wiaan Mulder, Senuran Muthusamy, Lungi Ngidi, Lhuan-dre Pretorius, Kagiso Rabada, Ryan Rickelton, Tristan Stubbs.

South Africa have stuck to the same 50-over playing group who won them the series in Australia. Young quick Kwena Maphaka has been retained as cover in the squad for Kagiso Rabada, who is managing an ankle injury. Rabada will likely not be available for South Africa until the T20I series, but has been included in the ODI squad. Captain Temba Bavuma is coming back from a hamstring injury which he sustained in the WTC final. He played the first and third ODIs in Australia but was rested for the second to manage his workload. He is expected to be managed in a similar way in England.
