248-3: England power past own record for highest T20I total on home soil

In a dead-rubber final match, England were put in to bat first at Utilita Bowl, having opted for an unchanged team from their win in Bristol two nights ago. Jamie Smith, standing in for Phil Salt who is on paternity leave, opened the batting alongside Ben Duckett, and the pair put on a mammoth stand for the first wicket. England were 120-0 before Smith was out, with Duckett having hit a half-century off 20 balls, and Smith on 60 from 26.

A brief blitz from Jos Buttler followed, scoring 22 off 10 balls before he was dismissed by Sherfane Rutherford. After Duckett was out for 84, England's young guns in Harry Brook and Jacob Bethell pushed their total higher. Bethell scored 35 off 16 deliveries, including four sixes as England powered towards 250. Brook finished unbeaten on 35 off 22, leaving the field with his side having set West Indies 249 to win.

The 248 runs they scored was a new record for an England men's T20I total in England. It surpassed their previous record of 234-6, which they set against South Africa in 2022. However, it's not the outright record for the highest T20I total scored in England, with Australia also having scored 248 in 2013, again in Southampton. It also falls just short of England's highest-ever men's T20I total, sitting in second place behind their 267-3 against West Indies in Tarouba in 2023.
